Disease Management for Pets in the Home

Ongoing Disease Management

At Snowshoe Home Vet, Dr. Brenna can help you manage your pet’s ongoing diseases. Some diseases that can be managed in a house-call setting include hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, chronic kidney disease, inflammatory bowel disease, allergies, arthritis and behaviour changes.

Blood & Urine monitoring

We can collect blood and urine samples in the home for pets who are amenable to it. These can be used to assess the condition of the internal organs and overall health. We can use bloodwork to monitor internal diseases such as thyroid disease, diabetes and kidney diseases.

Allergies

We can help manage allergies and chronic itch in dogs and cats through skin cytology or ear swab testing, physical examinations, acupuncture, herbal therapies, food therapy, medications, bloodwork, immunotherapy and referrals to a dermatologist.

Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Dr. Brenna can help you manage your dog or cat’s ongoing gastrointestinal concerns through blood testing for vitamins, pancreatic diseases and other internal conditions that may lead to intestinal or stomach upset. In the home, we can collect fecal samples for analysis. We suggest a comprehensive plan to manage IBD which may include food therapy, medications when needed, herbal medicines or supplements & acupuncture.

Arthritis and Mobility Concerns

Dr. Brenna Sakatch provides in-home physical exams and Chinese medicine assessments to determine the options available to manage chronic pain in your pet. A comprehensive pain management plan for arthritis, spondylosis or IVDD may include prescription medications, herbal therapies, exercises, acupuncture and even food therapy.
